Favorite flicks

Well, seems like I should start populating this journal, huh? It occured to me tonight that I have lots of appropriate material to post here, all kinds of scribblings and "just for fun" type things or bits of randomness, such as this favorite movie list, which I keep as a "note" in my MS Outlook. If anybody notices any themes or wants to shout out their favorites, go for it :)

  • Annie Hall
  • Belle du Jour
  • The Bishop's Wife
  • Cinema Paradiso
  • The Dark Crystal
  • Farewell My Concubine
  • Gods and Monsters
  • Howard's End
  • The Inlaws
  • Lawrence of Arabia
  • Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring
  • Koyaanisqatsi
  • The Matrix
  • Quest for Fire (La Guerre du feu)
  • Radio Days
  • Satyricon
  • Stalag 17
  • Sunset Boulevard
  • Suspiria
  • The Third Man

  • 2001: A Space Odyssey

Seems like I like dark movies and fantasies a lot, doesn't it? He he.

Books 2001-Present

Now for a second list, also from my MS Outlooks "Notes." This is basically a list of books I've read since 2001. There are a few missing probably, since I did the 2001 list toward the beginning of 2002, but it gets a lot of them. I don't count books I skimmed, just ones I read really end to end (and over and over usually).

Astronomica, beautiful, beautiful album

In my favorite flicks list, I mentioned I was listening to this album Astronomica. Thought I'd provide a link so you could hear this extraordinary album from Atlanta-based "baroque pop, ethereal quintet," a.k.a. really cool goth band. One of their instruments is electric violin basically! Wondrous stuff. There are two great links for them, one is their MP3.com page, then second is their web site, http://www.changelings.com. On the MP3.com site "Orbit" is a version (more instrumental than the album version) of a song I really love, one of the very best things on the album. I saw them perform at Dragon*Con and I got chills through my whole body listening to this (at piercing volume, mind you).

Oh, and here are pics, too (see, I'm getting good at this!)
