A pox on that!

So the smallpox vaccination plan? Good or bad? I can't decide.

I did realize the other day that I am actually one of the most protected people I know, since while vaccinations stopped in '72 and I was born in '74, my mother insisted that I get the shot, just like all her other kids. Growing up other kids would ask me what the mark on my arm was and I said it was from that shot. What I didn't know until recently is that the smallpox vaccination mark is actually one big pockmark. Based on that, I can certainly imagine the disfigurement that used to be so widespread when this disease was out in the open. George Washington had really bad skin I bet.

Japanese candy

I was looking at some Flash applications and ended up on the Nestle' Japan site. Since it was all in Japanese, I didn't know what the heck was going on, but after clicking from page to page on candy and stuff that looked familiar, I found this page on the Japanese version of "Kit Kat" that shows you the wonders of globalization but also the wonders of localization"

Kit Kat Japan

Notice that althought the base product has the same name and concept, it's been re-engineered for the Japanese market, with taste options we'd never have here in the States -- not to mention, different packaging and the web site it's on is all Japanese pop. This is reminds of of how in Germany, you can get snack-size cartons of buttermilk in strawberry, passion fruit, banana and other flavors and advertise milk on TV as this wonderful healthy cure-all that will get you laid.
