Overheard...

I'm at my nice contract at Central Atlanta Progress and I hear this guy talking on the phone arranging for his son's wedding and he says he has a Jones New York tuxedo. Hmmm, I am totally wondering how much that cost. That must've been pricey! Damn!

This relates to something my mom brought up when I was home, which is that apparently some formerly black tie events are having to relax their dress codes since more and more guys don't have tuxes. I noted that one sign that I live in a wealthy neighborhood is that I know numerous guys who own tuxes. When had the VIP Party for our neighborhood festival last spring (um, VIP Party also gives an idea of this neighborhood) like 10 guys showed up in tuxes that had NOT rented. I was like "Wow!" Maybe I should do an entry on "Top 10 Ways to Tell Your Neighbors Are Loaded."

Operation Shanghai

OK, that subject line was random and means nothing.

Well, except that I cooked Chinese for dinner and it was actually good. As always, I got the recipes from my Moosewood international vegetarian cookbook. I had ALL the ingredients (well, except a few I substituted according to the book's suggestions) and about 1 1/2 hours, I sliced and diced and chopped and stir-fried and boiled and baked a rather nice dinner for three (plus leftovers for my lunch tomorrow). The soup was spinach, carrots, onions, bamboo shoots and a lot of different flavorings, while the entre (served with rice) was "Buddha's Delight" (or something like that) -- a big stir fry with sauce, with a ton of vegies, including carrots, onion, ginger, asparagus, squash, plus a ton of flavorings. I even made up the table nice with candles all around the kitchen and it was done on time. Caleb says to add it to the list of "approved foods" -- things I cook that he likes.
