Resonating Death

I have to admit, I have felt very empty and disconnected from all the shuttle disaster coverage. I haven't really read many articles on it, despite there being hundreds to choose from. CNN has not been on as much at home because I feel they're just repeating themselves.

However, today I found what I was looking for, which is an actually intelligent reflective piece from the NY Times that explains why so many people are moved by this disaster.

I have a bad feeling about this

Walking to work this morning, I noticed that like a few of the buildings near the Philips Arena / Georgia Dome area, the Coca-Cola headquarters building on North Avenue has been draped with a huge, multi-story advertising banner, presumedly to capture the eyes of the thousands descending on the area this weekend for the NCAA Women’s Final Four. Unlike the other ones, however, this one worries me, as I think it's presenting just a bit too much temptation:

Jump and touch this sign, win a free Sprite

Is it just me, or doesn't that seem a dumb thing to dare in 20-story-high letters? I am totally picturing somebody dropping out of a helicopter by rope and touching the site to get a free Sprite or doing some other weird ass thing. About the only protection Coke has against this is the obscene amount of security surrounding their corporate campus.

Immature email harrassment, + people seeking incest info

So a couple days after launching the new edition of Inception, I get this email via my Metro Girl web form, subject "head" that says:

i am interested to know if head is for sale and how much you would sell it for.

For about five second I was like "Wow, that's so cool, though weird..." because I have a piece of art in the current edition called "Head."

Then after five second, just as I was about to reply, I thought about the message and knowing what creeps are out there, decided against making a reply offering to sell "head."

(Anyone think I am reading too much into this?)

In the meantime, I find it interesting that week after week, among the very top search terms for Inception, stuff people type into search engines and find us, is "father-daughter incest" and "incest stories." Apparently they are finding this article by marchenland talking about incest taboos among the Wraeththu and how they might / might not be applicable. I'm sure the people finding that page must all be like, "Excuse me, WHAT is this about promiscuous hermaphrodites???!!!"

Oh, well.
