Spam spam spam spam spam spam spam...

I keep reading articles on how the amount of spam coming into people's inboxes is increasing an an amazing rate, but lately I have been flabbergasted at the way things are ramping up. I'm working at home today and something comes EVERY FIVE MINUTES! What is really annoying is, I have around 10 email accounts and except for a couple of them, they ALL get that much. I keep raising my spam protection and it just gets worse, I swear and at work it's even more fun since I get about 30 copies of the Klez virus every day.

And here's a bit of a survey: Anyone ELSE keep getting those impossible-to-block Artprice.com (or other "art" related) emails? They won't stop!

Taking SF/Fantasy too seriously

I came across this editorial on SFCrowsnest.com that, among other things, talks about the sort of people who are upset that the LotR movies were ever made because they impinge on the books and/or people's imaginations. A worthy little read:

Reality is for people who don’t have a grip on fantasy
by Geoff Willmetts, SFCrowsnest.com

BTW, SFCrowsnest is a cool SF zine that has some nice reviews and consderations of SF universes, fandoms, etc. Not only that, their monthly update today contained the following quote, which I thought was quite striking:

History will remember the inhabitants of this century as the people who went from Kitty Hawk to the moon in 66 years, only to languish for the next 30 in low Earth orbit. At the core of the risk-free society is a self-indulgent failure of nerve.
Buzz Aldrin, Apollo 11 astronaut

Not that it changes my opinion of space exploration, but it does let me see a different POV.
