I like this SpamKiller thing. Basically I can have my email program closed and SpamKiller runs in the background and checks all my accounts. The icon in my system tray shows when stuff comes in and if I point at it, it'll give me the "count" -- so this morning, for example, there were 11 messages (a.k.a. stuff that the filter says is "OK"), 8 "suspected spam" (all were spam), and 32 spam. It's very accurate and the ones that do come through were easy to filter b/c I know what the "keywords" are. You can filter by content of message even, so you just highlight some word (today I added a "monstrous tools" filter) and you will not see those messages again. When I'm actually in the email program, I have the "check automatically" option unchecked. When I check my mail, only the stuff I want arrives, since SpamKiller has already gone through it.
I know this isn't really eliminating the problem but it keeps almost all the crap out of my inbox and now when I'm working and there's a ping for a new message, I can see if it's spam even w/o opening the program.
caleb wants me to make him dinner again. wtf?
on a related wtf? note, i find it pretty aggravating that after coming home from outwriters' "writers retreat" today and being *exhausted* and diving into bed for a *nap* which is very unlike me that *THIS* is the time when I get 3 telemarketing calling, 1 hang-up call, and 2 calls from caleb. the first call from caleb i could understand, as he didn't know i was trying to sleep but the *second*? and i'm telling him i'm in bed trying to sleep and he's coaxing me into cooking dinner for him?! (before anybody asks, i would not have even answered the phone except i was expecting a call. i don't have caller id.)
on top of this, i just stumbled into my kitchen (i've ditched the nap idea after all this) and noticed all my pots and pans are dirty. i will have to clean in order to make dinner. i will have to pick up. crap. he's going to call me again and bug me. wtf?! if i wasn't so tired i'd be mad. as it is, i'm nursing a coke and going to ignore the whole situation until whenever caleb calls.
ADDENDUM: Well, Caleb surprised me. He called at 6:15 and said I didn't have to cook after all. He also said he was cooking ME dinner. He called back at 7 and sure enough, he made DAniel and I yummy dinner. Yay.
(only really relevent to rpg or wraeththu people)
you know, keeping getting news on the wraeththu rpg, discussing it with gabby and others, may be helping on it even... but honestly i am not intersted in that. i think writing STORIES is way more interested than writing endless scads of books on background and then playing a character game. i like writing regular stories, not interested in interacting within a world with others. don't want to be a party pooper and i will still help on it, esp. on bits that *do* interest me, but really a lot of it, hearing what's being developed, just annoys me. i don't *want* details, i don't give a lick!
This is nice. Over the past hour, instead of me getting interrupted 8 times by Outlook telling me I have email (I usually keep it open), now I just have the SpamKiller icon telling me I have 8 spam, no real mail. No reason to interrupt my work when I can see what the mail "is" before even bother looking.
