Wilkommen

Einstruzende Neubauten is performing at the Masquerade this May? Huh! So I have just learned form stumbling into the Atlanta Gothic web site. Hmmmm, that might be good to go to. Their music is great for catharis!

Calming down for NYC

Well, I know I shouldn't have stayed up so late but on the other hand, I just did something good, which is figure *exactly* how I'm getting to the hotel from the airport on Friday. Going to take the Q-48 MTA bus to the 111 Street subway station by LaGuardia, then the subway goes right to Grand Central. Then I take Metro North commuter rail up 45 minutes to Rye. At the station there will be a hotel shuttle. Total cost should be around $14. Not bad at all.

Meanwhile, Storm, Jim, Gabby & Lydia are I guess leaving quite soon from Birmingham! Whoo HOO! Everybody wish them luck!

Customer service

I just wrote an email to all my clients explaining how I'm going out of town and won't be available for them. This is something I always do if I'm going away for more than a couple of days. However, it just occured to me, is it weird I do this? I don't recall anybody sending ME something saying they're going out of town. Oh, well, not that I'm fretting about it -- I think I *should* keep my clients informed -- but I'm just curious.

That reminds me, got to email my mom too, she always wants to know if I'm gone anywhere.

So predictable

My birds really like 80s music, esp. New Wave. Don't know WHY, but they do. Well, from their reaction to this 80s German "Fettenhits" CD I'm playing, I gather language isn't an issue. They just like their music upbeat, I guess! Though they also react strongly to Kraftwerk. LOL.

Oh, I love my Beastie Boys

All day long, I keep having Beastie Boys lyrics running through my head. I think it has something to do about my impending trip to New York, LOL. Like, I'm walking down the street and

Jazz and Awol that's our team
Step inside the party disrupt the whole scene
When it comes to beats well I'm a fiend
I like my sugar with coffee and cream
Got to keep it going keep it going full steam
Too sweet to be sour too nice to be mean

I *love* their Hello Nasty album -- loved in college, still love it. Their rhymes on that just KILL me. Examples:

Sometimes I like to brag sometimes I'm soft spoken
When I'm in Holland I eat the pannenkoeken

I don't mean to brag I don't mean to boast
But I'm intercontinental when I eat french toast

Dogs love me cause I'm crazy sniffable
I bet you never knew I got the ill peripheral

If you try to knock me you'll get mocked
I'll stir fry you in my wok
Your knees'll start shaking and your fingers pop
Like a pinch on the neck of Mr. Spock

Sweet and sour like a tangerine
Fresh like a box of Krispy Kremes

What's especially kick-ass about the lyrics on this is how they basically will go for a good 20+ lines with every line rhyming (the "Mr. Spock" line quote about comes from a section like that). It's like a super rapper challenge. My friends found it annoying when it came out, cause it was kind of extreme, but I just find it hopelessly, hilariously clever.

P.S. I'm feeling the effects of a huge "Mocha Delite" from the coffeeshop across the street. It's very GOOD effect! Around 3:30 I (who hates naps) actually konked out on my bed for a 1/2 hour, I was feeling so sleepy. But then I woke up and ran to get this treat and BOOM! I managed to finish my MG marketing brochure (put off for 3 months!) and get into a genuinely good mood!

I feel really good

Kind of scary, but I've succeeded with most of my plans for today -- knocking out a few last bits of client work, renewing my business license, and focusing on company marketing.

In fact, I just completed what I think is a very nice tri-fold brochure, which I plan on having printed once I get back from NY. (And what's nice is, the hubby of my Italian market client works at a fancy print shop and said he'd give me a huge discount.) I'm also going to email it as a PDF attachment to as many people as I can, as part of my marketing. It's already posted to my web site here (PDF). So, aha, I feel like I have done something that might help me make MONEY. Whoo hoo!

I'm going to work hard to really jump on top of things once I get back. I've got Mat Man to worry about (and get done, so I get more money), plus the cabin site and hopefully the site for this artist guy (who didn't like my estimate, but I'm going to negotiate). Also hopefully I'll be doing sites for the Italian wholesaler and this Italian fashion guy from the shop downstairs. Plus I'm going to agressively approach a couple of Downtown orgs whose web sites kind of suck, and see if they might be interested in redesigns at a reasonable rate. Yeah, I really plan to WORK!

And now I'm going to go do trip-related stuff, like clean up the house a final time and pack. May as well do it while the caffeinne's in action!

Hair

I know a lot of people would say this was a bad quality of mine, but I really like taking pictures of myself, and always have. (I like being photographed by other people too.) The past couple of years have been especially good in this respect, since using my digital camera and a mirror, I've been able to catalog just about every haircut and dye job I've had. Some people are into body piercing or getting tattoos, as a way of "transforming" themselves, but I prefer the less permanent alterations I can wield on my mop.

Soft, soft golden hair this time

P.S. I'm leaving for NY early Friday a.m., so I guess from now 'til maybe Tuesday, when I'm at my sister's in Rhinebeck, expect nothing but silence from me. For ONCE.
