Two Ships That Pass In The Night (er, Weekend)

Ever been at a convention hotel where there were two groups having events that just didn't really "go" together, like maybe Wiccans and meeting of Catholic priests? Well, that sort of thing is happening in Atlanta on a large scale this weekend. Here in Downtown we'll be hosting the TD Jakes MegaFest, a multi-day event expected to draw upwards of 100,000 people (mainly black) for, essentially a massive Bible-thumping session with lots of preaching and hollering. Meanwhile a couple miles north, in Midtown, it's Atlanta Pride! The big party is in Piedmont Park per usual, with the parade on Sunday. I bet anything there are lots and lots of people forced to hang Downtown by family and social obligations who would much rather be in Midtown.

When You Say Dylan, He Thinks Your Talking 'Bout Dylan Thomas

Caleb tried has tried to beat it out of me (no, not literally) so I don't often indulge anymore, but I have a real fondness for Bob Dylan. In high school I repeatedly borrowed this book that was The Complete Lyrics of Bob Dylan and used to sit around reading it out loud. I think I've probably only actually heard about 1/5 of his output (mainly 1960s) but it didn't matter because you really can read his stuff as poetry. Right now I'm listening to one of the first CDs I ever owned, Oh Mercy, from the late 80s. I can agree with those who say some of his recent albums and concerts are a total mumble-fest but this album is good stuff. Classic line: "We live in a political world | Under the microscope | You can travel anywhere and hang yourself there | You always got more than enough rope."

Ch-Check It Out

So it seems the new Beastie Boys album comes with copy protection software that installs itself right on your computer if you put it in to play it. It's something EMI insisted on for all discs distributed in the US. That's worth knowing! Don't have the CD yet but I will soon. Got this information from multiple sources, then went to the Boys' web site and it's true apparently. Interesting discussion in their forum!. (Also their forum is hilarious in general; sample subject line, "Is Brass Monkey about giving head?")

Thank you jesswired!

All morning long I have been getting phone calls -- mainly annoying ones:

- 2 recorded phone spams (*click!*)
- 2 calls from Equity One (*click!*)
- call from restaurant saying there's a typo and printing issue
- 2-3 calls from Caleb

Plus I tried calling my allergy doctor to get an appt. (I have finally given in to the fact I have a big sinus infection again) and couldn't reach anybody, the lines were busy.

But then jesswired called me, we chatted and hopefully tomorrow we're going out biking. Hoo ha!

I now return to my regularly (if reluctantly) scheduled program.

Ouch!

Well, hopefully lydia2600 is in ignorance of this or she'd be panicked!

Bowie hit in the eye by lollipop

Within moments, he was facing the crowd of 7,500. Swearing at the unknown culprit, Bowie said he only had one good eye. The other eye had been damaged in a childhood fight.

Lydia is in Prague at the moment. Don't know if the show she was seeing already happened but I don't think so, think it's tomorrow maybe.

Hey, I'm in Atlanta!

I am so happy with weather this week. It has actually turned to Atlanta Weather, the way it's SUPPOSED to be, i.e., it's wicked hot but every afternoon there are massive showers. Sometimes twice an afternoon! Yesterday the sky opened up three times but what I found funny was in between each burst, the sun was so hot the water was visibibly evaporating off the sidewalks, roads, etc. The air is very Floridian too.

Ah, the sweet sound of thunder and the pitter-patter of raindrops flinging themselves sideways against my windowpane... Yay!

My Magic Garden, Pt. 2

A couple of people have said they want people of *my* Magic Garden, rather than just company photos. Well, OK, the public has spoken so here it is!
