Wait, I get paid?

Logged in to SunTrust bank this morning and sitting in my checking account is my first paycheck from GTRI! Whoo hoo! How satisfying!

Let there be light!

Seeing as I haven't done much in the way of decorating the house in ages, I just got another ceiling lamp. It's sad, but I've lived here three years and I only have one ceiling lamp, depite the fact each room has a socket for one. I got the first one last summer and it's in the living room. Just got another one that's sort of similar, only it's one of those nice 30s "bead chain" one where the shade hangs down from the actual socket part. It's pretty! Actually I got a different shade than the one pictured, since they were out of stock, and that shade looks is here. It always takes me forever to find stuff that matches my house, since it has to be 30s style (but not overly Art Deco / futuristic) so when I do find things that match, I'm very excited!

For the last ceiling fixture I think I will get a ceiling fan for the bedroom. marchenland pointed me to a nice online outfit and hopefully I can find something that works. Most of the designs I've seen are either too "country" or way too modern / industrial. I like some of the designs a lot, but just like modern furniture, they just don't belong in this house.

Unavoidable but I still don't like it

Over the past year, as a self-employed person working at home, my "phone phobia" has become less of a problem, mainly because I really have been *forced* to call and be called, to talk to clients, CPAs, tech support, etc. In general I no longer put off calls for weeks or avoid calling a client who requests to. I'm more pragmatic and less silly about it.

However, occasionally the problem does rear its ugly head. Like today, when I had somebody to call and could have called this morning, but instead I went out for my allergy shot, then lunch, then grocery shopping, before getting home at 1. I could have called then, but instead I cleaned & vacuumed the kitchen/dining/living area and frittered away my time in other ways. Finally at 3:30 I summoned the strength to call. The conversation went perfectly fine, the only downside being it was 45 minutes long (any client phone call over 15 minutes is too long, IMO) and left me with a really sore throat.

Meanwhile I also am super itchy, I think from all the dust I turned up while cleaning, but hopefully this will go away; I may take a shower to be sure it does. Tonight there's a neighborhood happy hour and I usally get dressed nice for that (flaneur that I am) so a shower would get me "freshened."
