I enjoy this, but...

For those who wonder what it is like to edit a book manuscript, I'd like to note that after the fun part of comments, corrections you make as you go along, easy search and replaces, comes the truly tedious part of tasks like searching on every instance of "but" and "although" and "where" and "who" and words like that, so you can make sure the clauses are properly set off -- or not -- from the text. I'm fortunate that I have a grammar book which makes the rules pretty darn clear but even so, once you start doing it, after a while any word or phrase becomes meaningless or at the very least strange, so I start wonder "Why the hell is although spelled like that?" or ponder the puzzling intricacies of the English language.
