ice cream

One of the best treats EVER!

Today after work, Caleb picked me up in his rental car. After a stop at his work, we went off to Alon's Bakery.

This what I bought:

Valrhona Truffle Slice

Oh. My. God. It was SO good! I don't think there's any sugar in it, as it's really got the "dark" taste. It's got all these layers INCREDIBLE creamy chocolate/cocoa stuff, like super super concentrated orgasms of taste... Eeep!

I love Alon's. They don't f*ck around!

Next time I want to get soemthing like this.

Yes, I am a spoiled brat.

Dreams of cons, friends, swimming...

I just overslept but he he, given the dream I just had, it was worth it :)

Somehow my alarm was set and it woke me at 8. I flipped it off, thought about getting up, then said "Naaaaah" and was asleep in 2 seconds.

Then I had a dream. A very funny dream with lots of people I know -- or at least could picture in a dream.

As much as I can remember, Storm and I had been invited to run a track at some other convention. It wasn't Lunacon or Dragon*Con, but another con which possibly (at least at start of dream) was in Atlanta. The con was scheduled to take place in a public school instead of a hotel, which is kind of an interesting idea. Anyway, there was a whole section of the dream at the convention, which was somewhat well-organized though at times not.

One bit I clearly remember was there being a regular program schedule and then this *other* schedule the organizers kept bragging about, which was a big glossy goth zine. Well, after waiting for like a day since the printing was late, the zine came out and we all read it. OMG, it was sooooo bad! It was glossy all right, but it had a fashion section that was like fashion disasters and the whole thing was full of bad poetry. At this point cue marchenland going off on it and talking about how the organizers of the con were a bunch of 17-year-old goth wannabes with cash enough for a glossy zine, but no style.

Finally there was a break in the con and Storm and I went out. Somehow we were now in Stafford or at least in England. The weird thing was that at first, she had a car, which of ALL things was a pink Buick. LOL. I think she was renting it though, since a) she doesn't drive in RL and b) she wasn't used to driving and thus we were kind of getting a bit lost.

Finally we were in some strange sort of city, which was very English but at the same time, was kind of futuristic, but using Art Noveau design (this is my dream, remember). One thing it had was all kind of unusual public transit. There were subways and trains above ground but the cool thing was, they were all inside clear tubes and the trains didn't have WALLS so you could see all the people. However, I think it was one-way mirrors because you could see people doing silly things like picking their noses and scratching themselves, thinking nobody could see. Storm and I were totally laughing over that.

Eventually we must have ditched the car, because we were in a new transit situation -- the public swim lane! Yes, this city had water transport where people SWAM. It was soooo funny. Everybody had bathing suits on suddenly and Storm and I were swimming down the "line" with all these other people. I was doing a really crappy dog paddle but still managing to keep up. Then I felt somebody tugging on my leg and giggling -- and who should it be but Kristina and thespian, who for some reason are super jolly and think there's something super funny about the whole situation. Anyway, turns out the bathing suit I was wearing had words on it in the back, in great big letters: "SHREK LITE." I think Kristina must've peed herself laughing.

Anyway, that's when I woke up :)

So according to Pat Robertson, he warned Dubya on Iraq but Dubya was uber-confident and ignored his (and probably everybody else's) advice! Of course Robertson is still a Republican and former head of the Christian Coalition, but he does seem to cite some misgivings re Dubya's obstinant personality!

Was looking at my Amazon Wish List, which I maintain not b/c I want to get everything on it FROM Amazon, but so I can easily keep track. Anyway, I was looking at the DVDs on the list and my choices seemed, well, very me :)

2001 - A Space Odyssey
Beastie Boys DVD Video Anthology - Criterion Collection
The Best of Ernie Kovacs
The Bishop's Wife (the Cary Grant version)
Bowling for Columbine
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari
Diary of a Lost Girl
Donnie Darko
Fahrenheit 9/11
Fellini's Satyricon
The Fifth Element
Lawrence of Arabia (Superbit Collection)
Metropolis (Restored Authorized Edition)
The Nightmare Before Christmas
The Pianist (Widescreen Edition)
Rear Window (Collector's Edition)
Rebel Without a Cause
The Rules of the Game - Criterion Collection
Sunset Boulevard (Special Collector's Edition)
The Third Man (50th Anniversary Edition) - Criterion Collection

Commonalities from this list:

- Of the 21, 13 of them (62%) were made before I was born.
- 9-10 of them are in B&W
- I've seen almost all of them several times.
- Most of them are pretty darn dark, of if they're funny, it's weird funny. Probably only the Ernie Kovacs (a brilliant 1950s TV comedian) is truly a comedy.

I really don't mean to be so serious, I just am, I guess!

Why is it that so many of my posts have to do with food lately?

Anyway, I really want some baklava right about now.

What's scary is the Greek diner next door always has it.

But after that chocolate thingy last night... Nah! I should eat carrots!

daonnan asks: Does the name Wiebke mean anything?

Well, aside from being a German name (version of the name Rebecca/Vibeke/Rebekkah), no, it's just a nickname I've had for many years.

Deal is in

Well, it's official! I got the big contract for the retirement community in Sandy Springs! Whee! I had emailed my contact about a month ago and she said something like "Oops, didn't they tell you?" and a promised they'd be calling me. For the past couple of weeks I've been checking my voicemail thinking they should have called but figured they were busy. So the Director just called and said he'd left a message, but I swear I checked several times and I never got one. Anyway, we're set to meet next week. Not like I don't already feel buried in work but I guess I can cope. He will be very businesslike and not a tricky customer like some.

Wendy, Wendy, Wendy

My mom -- who did NOT, I must note, name me after a book character -- send me a link to a cool article on Wendy.

Everyone knows a Wendy
Kansas City Star

The article mentions Wendy.com, a site that's been around since the early days of the Web and lists me on its "World Wide Wendy" page. I actually wrote to her and found out that apparently 2-3 other Wendy Darlings exist.

I'm sure there will be further weird Wendy stories coming up, what with the J.M. Barrie movie Johnny Depp is in...
