Where is the champagne?

I think web site launches should be like boat launches, with champagne and stuff. Too bad I dont even have wine. I bet I could think up a good cocktail though, before bed.

Meantime, just finishing launching the latest client project, a web site for Charis Circle, a feminist group affiliated with Charis Books & More, Atlanta's feminist bookstore, which just celebrated 30 years. My fee on this was discount, but I'm pleased with the design, I love the group (yeah, duh), and I figure the group has a lot of collections with people that could end up being clients for me one day.

Knowing the Executive Director, two days from now I'll be grumbling about the 50 changes she needs me to make, based on things she never mentioned to me before, but for now, I'm glad it's out the door.

Couldn't we just do IM?

I'm facing a phobia right now...

At 4:15 I'm supposed to call up this woman from our work and then get my boss on the line for a three-way call. I MUST make the call. Gah. I never like making phone calls (never have, as long as I can remember) but when I'm FORCED to do it, ach, anxiety city!

One less thing that's not my problem

Wheeee! Well, that stupid project I ranted about Tuesday is now officially no longer my problem, because we have pretty much contracted Shelley* to get it done over the next week. She will be working with the client and the GT web site team directly and all I need to do is... well, do all the other work piled up. Client seems happy, shelley will pick up some extra pay, my boss has a "plan," it's all good.

* the woman who replaced me but then I replaced but who is coming back Dec. 1 to replace me.

Yay Mom!

Surprising fact: My mom, too, is also a web designer!

See what my mom did: Ballard Vale United Church

She has been doing web design stuff for around three years. She doesn't really do it for money, but rather does projects for the church like the main site or the United Methodist Women site. It's surprising, though, how many techniques she knows, even doing floating menus and things (which I have bared learned myself!)

Someday I will have to do an essay about how awesome a role model my mom is. She is the most computer-literate 70-year-old I've ever heard of and she also taught computer courses for like 15 years, to people about 1/4 her age! Mom decided to go back to school in about 1980 and got an Associate's in Computer Science, when she was 46, and would talk to me about FORTRAN. It's no wonder at all I do what I do now.
