AirTran

People all over the place had a horrible time with flying over Christmas. I actually had barely any problems. The only thing was leaving late from Logan, but it was snowing like crazy and we were all amazed we got out at all.

As usual, AirTran was excellent. I've been flying with them since back when they were ValuJet and have always been impressed with the friendly, helpful attitude of their employees, including both ground staff like ticket booth people and flight crew. Even when things don't go perfectly, they keep passengers informed, stay calm, and don't act like it's the passengers' fault. Except for Lufthansa and British Air, most other airlines seem to have an abundance of employees who don't give a flip about you as long as you've paid your money. I'd have to say Delta has been the worst, but when I flew Continental to England last year they sucked too.

On a related note, I just checked with AirTran and I have enough A-Plus Rewards credits to get one way of my NY trip free. Wheee!

If Ashcroft Were Uninsured...

Alternet is doing a "Best of Alternet" thing and this article is really great as an illustration of problems with the U.S. healthcare and insurance industry:

If Ashcroft Were Uninsured...
John Ashcroft, in the hospital with pancreatitis, is undoubtedly receiving the best of care. But if he were one of the 41 million Americans without insurance, his experience would be vastly different.
