Another Brick Thrown in the Culture War

So SpongeBob is gay...

I for one still can't believe that crap over the "bouncer" ad, or the excuses the networks gave as to why they didn't want to show it. Oh! And did everybody here how PBS deleted a shot in a British show they're airing, one that showed a bare-chested woman being scrubbed down (medical treatment, not in a sexy way)? Also, "Family Guy" blurred a cartoon recently. Everybody is just sh*ttin' their pants over the FCC stuff...

Inaugeration by the Numbers

This is a great piece -- simple but telling.

Lifestyles of the Rich and Heartless

I don't see this type of sh*t as a Republican-only exercise, but as just another indicator of how far away most of those at the top are from those at the bottom. Also, gotta feel for the people of DC:

$17 million: Amount of money the White House is forcing the cash-strapped city of Washington, D.C., to pony up for inauguration security.

9: Percentage of D.C. residents who voted for Bush in 2004.

Worthwhile Read, Esp. for Europeans

The Atlanta paper today ran an outstanding op-ed piece by NY Times columnist Thomas Friedman that does a fantastic job of considering European reaction to the re-election (and today, coronation) of Bush. I would say he hits the nail on head capturing the shifting mood in Europe towars the U.S. and the sense of massive WTFness. I strongly recommend this brief peace to people concerned about U.S.-European relations.

You can read the article here or if you're not registered to the NYT site, you can Collapse )

My fav quote is right near the top:

Why are Europeans so blue over George Bush's re-election? Because Europe is the world's biggest "blue state." This whole region is a rhapsody in blue. These days, even the small group of anti-anti-Americans in the European Union is uncomfortable being associated with Mr. Bush. There are Euro-conservatives, but, aside from, maybe, the ruling party in Italy, there is nothing here that quite corresponds to the anti-abortion, anti-gay, anti-tax, anti-national-health-care, anti-Kyoto, openly religious, pro-Iraq-war Bush Republican Party.

That's the feeling I've had for years, just from reading English and German magazines and newspapers, plus knowing what their overall social and political policies are. It's really no wonder I travel so much.

I love it!

Decided to watch LINK TV, which airs international news. "International Newsfirst" just ran a CBC (Canadian) piece on the inauguration that ended with something like "but today Bush seemed as confident as ever that he would be able to have success pushing his radical agenda." I don't think I've ever heard Bush called a "radical" on TV before.

In a funk (but into bright colors)

I think my subconscious is trying hard to kick me out of this funk I've been in all week, because despite being tired, apathetic, and decidedly depressed, when I took out the oil pastels to draw tonight during a TV show, this is what came out:

Collapse )

I looked at it and was like, "OK, well, I'd say that's a big DENIAL there!" The squirrel is cute though.

Really have been out of my groove this week. While I haven't been depressed in the crying-for-no-reason way, I've definitely been on a big don't-give-a-sh*t kick. While it's true I've pushed myself to get things done -- and they GOT done -- there are other things like grocery shopping, bills, errands, etc. that I've been letting pile up for no reason other than that I feel sooooo lazy. My energy and interest in things is really low -- like I don't care what music is playing or even (gasp!) what I wear. I'm not into it. Been so tired too and achey. Walking around I've felt like I'm on auto-pilot at times and my brain's in a muddle. Normally even when I'm sleep-deprived I can be sharp, witty, dress well, and get hyper, but this week I've just wanted to stay in bed. Yesterday I even took my temperature, I was convinced I was sick. But I'm not, I'm just in a funk.
