NYC ideas

I'm finally catching up on actually prepping for my trip. I pulled together most of the stuff I will need for my panels at Lunacon and now I'm printing out stuff for the 2 1/2 days I'll be spending in NYC proper afterward, i.e. the vacation part.

So far on my to do/see list:

- Veniero's Pasticceria (Italian bakery heaven)
- Museum of Modern Art
- Metropolitan Museum of Art
- Staten Island Ferry
- Woodlawn Cemetery
- Chrystler Building (lobby)
- Rockefeller Center
- East Village
- Central Park

So I think I probably will do a day where I go to Central Park, hang out at the Met for a couple hours (I'll pick just one section), go to Midtown, in evening go to East Village to eat and then stuff down cream puffs at Veniero's. On another day, if it's not TOO cold/snowing/etc. I will take the subway up to Woodlawn, which is not only where my Oma & Opa are buried but amazing. I dunno though... I may skip that in favor of more just roaming around Manhattan type stuff, visiting old haunts and so on. I'd like to take the ferry per tradition, though, esp. now that it's free. I love cold ocean wind! I'd like to see the new wing at MoMA too and visit their gift shop.

We'll see how it all works out!

Luck, Unluck

I foolishly turned on NPR this morning and got a bit of WABE's morning programming, which is normally Classical but today turned Irish. And now I had "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling" stuck in my head. Badly. Which is better the having the "Oscar Mayer Wiener Song" in my head, like last night, but still... I feel like I have to go watch The Quiet Man or something!

Personally, I always think of St. Patrick's Day as a) the day 1/2 my home town suddenly became "ethnic" and b) the day my day got laid off from his last job, back in 1993. It was my senior year of high school and I remember coming home and having him call to me from upstairs. I was surprised he was home. He came to the top of the stairs and told me I'd always remember St. Patrick's Day.

Late in the office

Well, it's almost 7 and I'm finally ready to go home!

Sheesh! The office has been empty for an entire hour (actually most people leave around 4) but I had to stay here and updated some kind of Fellows Council web site. Took 2 1/2 hours! The rest of my day was spent making interface revisions to a third party software application. Oh joy!

I am SOOOOOOOOOOO outta here. 'Course I have a bit of work waiting for me at home too but at least I've escaped THIS.
