Huh

So this is the 21st Century? It hasn't sunk in with me yet. I think a flying car would help. Or maybe a robo-maid.

Money anxiety

Just spent an hour dealing with a pile of receipts, bills, and other financial stuff that had accummulated in a large pile on my desk. This tends to happen when I'm not making any money, as it's some way of avoiding facing up to reality. Strangely, however, I actually feel *better* after taking care of it today. I realized I haven't been spending as much as I thought, plus I'm owed around $5000, which has to come to me *sometime*, right? Everything should work out fine, as I've got plenty of work right now, but I hate these low periods where I basically have almost no income and live on the "fat" of past high periods. The other day I deposited some small client checks at the bank and I felt like I hadn't done that in a few weeks. Which I hadn't.

Drug-induced siestas

I don't know that it's something to actually worry over, but ever since I went on Lexapro, I've been taking naps. Prior to Lexapro, I would only take a nap if I was severely sleep-deprived or sick. Now, several times a week, I'll just conk out in the middle of the day. It's not narcoleptic type falling asleep, but I'll just suddenly say, "You know, I'll really sleepy and would do well to go to sleep." I get up, go over to the bed, and whoomp! I'm out, for an hour or so. For a while this mainly happened around 3 or 4. Yesterday and today, it happened at 11:30.

It says right on the bottle, and again on the warning sheet, that Lexapro may cause drowsiness and watch out with the heavy machinery, so I'm pretty sure there's a direct correlation here. The drug is specifically designed to affect seratonin levels. I talked to my doctor about this, since he wanted to know if I was having any unwanted side effects, and he said if it bothered me, I could take the pill before going to bed. I haven't done that because I'm afraid I would be extremely groggy in the morning. Plus, is it really such a bad thing to take a nap? I did a report on sleep disorders once and know that naps are recommended by doctors.

Thirsty for art

I respect act and even enjoy some of the very weirdest "I can't believe that's art"/"Let's defund the NEA" type art, but I still find this VERY funny:

£42,500 bottle of water snatched
A thirsty thief is being blamed for downing a bottle of water, valued at £42,500, at a literary festival.

I can see this being done as a sketch on "MADTV."

Thoughts

Just stumbled across an "art piece" I created a while back, using frames and auto-refresh:

Thoughts

This continues to be a pretty good representation of what's going on in my head.

I'm glad I have insurance but...

I should've known better than to open a big package from BCBS, my health insurance provider. This time last year I got a package telling me, "Happy birthday, you get a premium increase for being 30!" Today I got another one saying, "Health care is just wicked expensive, so sorry, here's another big increase!" All in all, I think I actually have a pretty good deal, but considering I bought the policy in January 2004 at $175/month and it's now at nearly twice that, it doesn't feel like a good deal. The fact I have cash flow issues at the moment isn't helping me psychologically either.

One thing about the letter from the company really irrirated me though. There was a note about how there were some lower-cost options I might want to switch to, to lessen the impact of the increase. However, they had different plan numbers. Now, knowing how BCBS operates, if I were to call up and switch plans, they'd be happy to help me, but as soon as I used the policy I'd find out it was a "new policy" and there would be a one-year period of them ignoring all bills for "pre-existing conditions." They did it to me when I switched from a corporate plan of theirs to indidividual, so why not for getting a cheaper plan? I swear, insurance companies and phone companies have the most deceptive, confusing business practices out there.

So I'm going to just pay more, I guess. And hope I get some cash flow soon :) Which I should.

OK, I'm staying inside now

I just went outside to run some errands and now have a few choice terms to describe the weather here in Downtown Atlanta:

- oven-like
- like an overheated armpit
- stinky
- like a steam-cooker
- hellish

Seriously, it's a humid, stinky, fiery furnace out there. There IS a breeze, but even so it's about 95 and the breeze only circulate the fetid odors of summer. Downtown smells bad anyway, but in summer it's really gross.

I love my central air. [EDIT: Well, I do when it's working, which at the moment it doesn't appear to be. I think it can only work SO hard before it collapses. The temp is 81 in here.]

Summer brings some weird news items

I know weird news items come in all the time, but today I keep finding more.

Police Give Man Amputated Foot Back

Apparently this guy had to have his foot amputated and asked to keep the foot, which he did. He put it in a bucket filled with formaldehyde. This is the kicker though (no pun intended):

After a friend picked up the bucket at a hardware store, Rubottom added several objects as well as the severed foot -- including a porcelain horse and can of beer -- to make what he called ''a collage of myself.'' He also cut off two of the toes, saying he was considering giving them to friends.

I want a ticket to Ontario

Just went out and got a smoothie. My throat is sore and it's 100 out.

My air system inside can't keep up with the heat and it's 80-something in here. Yuck.

Outside is digusting -- not just hot but with horrible air. I checked the online smog alert systems and apparently we've entered the dreaded Red Zone that often lasts from last July through August. Today is Unhealthy.

Funk-o-rama fashion

Well, this was fun for me! Took the Collapse )

Meanwhile I would really like to wear some cool clothes but most of them don't fit. Or if they do, they make me look like I've put the toothpaste back in the tube ;)
