MARTA pissing me off

As I just emailed Caleb & Daniel...

I just had another of those "F*ck MARTA!" moments.

I was coming into Arts Center station, after taking the 23 bus back from the allergist, when I saw this fat MARTA employer walking towards the break room. Suddenly he waved over towards the turnstiles by West Peachtree. I thought he was waiving at another employee, but it turned out to be a patron. "The token machine is broken!" she yelled, waving a dollar bill. Not moving any closer, the guy yells back, "Pick up the white phone!" The woman cries, "I did and nobody is picking up!" Then the MARTA employee shrugged and went into the break room, just leaving the woman there at the gate.

As if this weren't enough, I went down to get the train and noticed there were a lot of people. Just like yesterday, the train was totally f'd up. It was about 15 minutes before a train came, but it was out of service and ran by. Right after that a real train came, only it barely pulled up, so everybody was trying to get on the first car. It was so crowded. When the train started moving, it was all jerky and we all thought it was going to break down. When I got off at Peachtree Center, the driver was yelling at everybody that "There's another train right behind us!" Why the hell is it such a difficult for them to make trains run?

Drop in the bucket

Called the insurance company about the dental work. They will pay about 28% of the total. This would be OK except the total is like $2500.

I will get the work done, but really slowly.

Our governor (Sonny Purdue, Republican of Georgia) is such a fool.

After Katrina the man decided to get rid of gas taxes in order to alleviate fuel prices. The Legislature gave this idea the stamp of approval, so no gas tax the rest of this month. The revenue loss from this was projected to be like $70 million or something.

Now today, the man's announced that school is cancelled Monday and Tuesday of this week to save gas. They'll be "snow days."


Both these things are stupid in and of themselves, but what really REALLY pisses me off is that this is the same man who doesn't seem inclined to ever give A CENT to public transportation. He likes to talk about how the gov't shouldn't subsidize such things. And yet he'll subsidize drivers any day. Drivers who might be using public transportation if it wasn't dying on the vine.

Oh, and I'd also like to point out that cancelling school is not going to SAVE a lot of parents money, since they'll have to do something about the kids, like stay home from work, find a babysitter, pay extra daycare, etc.
