ice cream

Tuesday, Movies

Tonight Jim prepped a brilliant English din din of: roast beef, boiled carrots & turnips, boiled homegrown beetroot, baked potatoes, and Yorkshire pudding. (I thought the Yorkshire puddings were popovers. What do I know?) Condiments included horseradish and mustard. Funny how much I love such dinners -- such a throw-back to dinners my dad always made. Guess which side of my family is the English side?

Afterward we watched Batman Begins. Fun movie, but must say, odd. To me it was one big little boy wish fulfilment movie. It was all about the tools. I guess I would give it a B but I'm not interested in seeing it again.

Since the movie, we've all three been in our own worlds on the computer. Jim and Storm are doing Guild Wars, I guess in the same world technically, while I've finished proofing a manuscript, have done work, emails, etc.

Speaking of movies, November has been my first full month of doing Netflix and generally trying to see more movies. Here's what I've seen so far, along with a grade for each:

The Fifth Element - A
Wishing Stairs - B-
Annie Hall - A
Dagon - A-
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire - A
Batman Begins - B

So overall, a good crop! Even Wishing Stairs was entertaining, it was just the incoherent "What the f*ck is going on?"-ness of it -- characteristic of Korean horror? -- that got me.

Where did we meet? (ganked from versailles_rose)

Part of being on Livejournal.com is inevitably gaining a number of LJ buddies. Unfortunately, as time wears on, it's easy to forget where all of them
came from. Post this in your journal and have your friends respond with how they recall first meeting you (either in person or via th'electronic age)...

Please join in?

Yummy dessert recipe

In addition to making a pot of yummy beef stew tonight, made up a dessert dish that came to me sponateously.

Pears & Advocaat

Ingredients:
2 pears, cored & chopped
1/4 cup water
2/3 cup Advocaat Egg Liqueur (eggnog-like Dutch liqueur)
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. sugar

Directions:
1. Cut up pears, put in small pot set to high.
2. Add water, let it steam the pears a bit. Stir.
3. Add Advocat, stir. Add cinnamon, sugar.
4. Reduce heat to medium, cook 20 minutes.
5. Serve hot.

This is delicious.
