I'm back

I managed to stay off my computer -- actually ALL computers -- from 5 p.m. Friday 'til just now, 10:45 a.m. Sunday. After work I just didn't want to deal with it and went out and had fun with Caleb. Saturday I went out for breakfast at Alon's with the boys and spent the afternoon cleaning. I knew that if I turned on the computer I'd waste time on it, so I left it off. Screw all the email and work piled up -- I need to deal with OTHER STUFF! So I cleaned, made a nice soup, watched movies, played with the cat, had the boys over, and completed a bunch of other non-computer-related projects. I feel so cleansed.

I haven't posted pics of Luckie in ages. So... now making up for it with a photo shoot from this morning. Luckie is really great about being photographed.

10 months old, still cute, with gorgeous green eyes.

Woke up with a wretched headache. Leaving some time after my regular meds, I took some sinus/allergy pills. Unlike on Thursday night, this time they're not waking me up. Nor are they doing anything for my headache. My nose does seem a bit clearer, though.

I'm going to TRY and get some work done today. The only problem is that since I didn't turn on my computer for a day, there are like 1000 emails to be downloaded and scanned for being spam. Taking forever. Then there are lots of tasks sent to me while I was offline. Everyboyd is irritated with me and I can't say I blame them.

During Caleb's mom's recent visit here, Caleb took a couple (to me) hilarious shots of me and Mom. Let's just say it's like I'm a Standard Poodle and she's a Toy Poodle.

I don't think the two of us could ever swap clothes.

Dad update

Got a voicemail from my sister Nancy and called her back because I knew it would be about Dad, only to get my brother-in-law Andy. Luckily Andy had a lot of details, which unluckily add up to Not Good. Dad has double-pneumonia, drains, a pus ball they're going to have to operate on, and staph has been detected in his urine, meaning he probably has an infection in his (already sick) kidneys. He's on fluids, antibiotics, nebulizer, etc. About the only good news is that there's somehow no serious fever and Dad is "himself," Andy says, meaning grumpy, irritated, and cantankerous. As Andy put it, "If your father starts to sound lackadaisical and happy in the hospital, there's something wrong." Anyway, Nanc was putting my nephew Sean to bed when I called, but I guess she'll call me back later.

Meanwhile I just emailed somebody in my work's HR department asking about procedures for emergency leave, family emergencies, etc. They have coverage and policies for that, but I'm not sure they cover me in the first six months of employment. We will see -- and I WILL go, if I must, for whatever reason.

EDIT: Talked to Nanc, she said pretty much what Andy said, plus said the hospital is reporting Dad probably won't be in there for "just a week" but might be there over the 60-day hospital stay allowance set by his insurance. WTF?!
