Monday, reviewed

So, today.

Work was very satisfactory today. I finished my first conversion of a static HTML web site into a dynamic site using RedDot CMS. It was basically a test, as something we needed to do and something that would give me practice without being unbelievably difficult. I feel some disbelief I did it, sort of like if somebody had asked me (a really unpracticed driver)to be a taxi driver and I not only did well, I got good tips. I mean, have I ever done this before? It is 95% done. Aside from that, the main other thing was a 1 1/2 hour long meeting for the "team" I'm on in run-up to our department "retreat" next week. (Yes, we have annual "retreats.") I thought it was going to be kind of quick, light-hearted, nothing very serious, but it turned into this very earnest discussion of the ARC, our message, our metaphors, and I was sitting there squirming because it was just weirdly sincere. However, the outcome of it is that our team, which is charged with presenting ideas for innovative outreach & marketing ideas, may wind up ordering custom fortune cookies filled with ARC facts. Which would be hilarious, IMO.

After work I took the bus to L5P and walked down to Edgewood Retail District. Once again I went to Best Buy thinking I might find a DVD or something but UGH! does their selection suck ass. I don't WANT DVDs of TV shows or only movies made after 1990. They don't even have a "classics" section. And they had a Buster Keaton collection filed under Drama! I need to get myself up to Tower in Buckhead, much as I don't want to go to Buckhead. After that I went over to Petco and got a load of supplies I needed, including an awesome buy-one-get-one-free sale on Carefresh piggy litter. Yay. The only bad thing was that my bags were really heavy and unwieldy so it was a pain in the butt to lug it to the train station. However, it was good exercise, right?

Finally home, I made a dish using pasta and these spizy chorizo tofurkey sausages I got the other day. Not horrible, but that that great either. Then I started worked on updating IP's web site, which got interrupted by Caleb, coming home from a meeting in East Point and very hungry. So I went over his house with leftover soup and pasta, plus dessert. (I was sick of eating that soup anyway.) I also brought over my quilt for a final "reveal." He was impressed, though like me he is not very into the "classic 1930s" side of it -- too bright and pastel-Easterish. We also diverted ourselves browsing real estate in Philadelphia, looking at photo shoots of German towns & cities in Brazil (learn something new every day), and discussed dreams. We both had some WEIRD ones last night! I dreamed about insects that transformed into guinea pigs and he dreamt about people getting bird flu from these giant sparkling dreamcatch things.

Meanwhile, no word on the Dad front. This is my own fault, as I didn't call the hospital or Mom, which I could have. I will do tomorrow. However, there were no emails whizzing about, which usually equals Bad, so I take that as a good sign.

WWJS (Who Would Jesus Sue?)

I wish I didn't find this crap. Must stop looking for it...

Christians Sue for Right Not to Tolerate Policies

Note that student is a Georgia Tech.

Out of that article, a key quote IMO is:

"What if a person felt their religious view was that African Americans shouldn't mingle with Caucasians, or that women shouldn't work?" asked Jon Davidson, legal director of the gay rights group Lambda Legal.

Exactly.

It sounds dorky, but I got a lot out of going to church every Sunday growing up, yet the actions of these folks make me feel more and more ticked off... wait, would that be "intolerant"?

NYC dream, with cameo by versailles_rose

Had a great dream involving moving to NYC, with some assistance from versailles_rose. What happened was, I got an out-of-the-blue, cannot-refuse type job offer in Manhattan. It was a dream job with dream pay and -- remember, this was a dream -- it included a condo or apartment on W. 12th St. Suddenly I was figuring out how to suddenly move out of Atlanta. I couldn't do it all at once, but was going to have to fly back and forth, signing paperwork, going to work, coming home to pack, etc. In the meantime my new home wasn't quite ready yet and didn't have furniture anyway, so I was going to crash at versailles_rose's place. I remember at once point she and I were online in some kind of virtual conference and I said something stupid about how I would just take the MTA east from my new place to her place... which would land me in Brooklyn. She laughed and was like, "No, north, north!" She told me she lived near LaGuardia... which is untrue, she lives in Yonkers. Anyway, all along there were scenes where I was walking around Atlanta like, "You are very familiar, but I'm really looking forward to leaving!"

Not a morning person

Tired is soaping yourself up 3 times in the shower b/c you can't remember what you did 30 seconds ago.

Actually the second time I forgot. The third time I started and was like, "Wait, this soap has suds on it already."

I am such a zombie in the morning.
