Meme: In case you were wondering...

How many times has someone on your friends list posted about something and you were really confused, but you didn't want to ask because you knew you SHOULD know? How many times have you felt guilty asking a close LJ friend a question that should be obvious?

Well, here's your chance.

If you've missed a few things, missed an entry and are confused, ask me anything. Even something EXTREMELY basic, like where I live! I'm not allowed to get even slightly irritated at any of the questions - we've all missed things before.

Dad Update

This afternoon I called my dad, who's been in the hospital about two weeks now. He took a long time to answer his phone and sounded like he dropped it, which happened since it had been set too far from his bed and he had to fumble around for it. Anyway, he sounded like he had just woken up, although he denied this being the case. I think his slurred speech and grogginess must be a combination of medication and just lying around doing just about nothing.

Re his health, what I got out of him is that his lungs are getting better, he's getting physical therapy to build back his stength (walking with a walker), and he's gained a little weight. The bad news, or so I gathered, is that they just gave him an ultrasound so they could find a good vein to use on him for dialysis. Dad hasn't had to start that yet, but his kidneys are so bad I guess he's getting to that point. This sucks because Dad has I think said on previous occasions that he really doesn't want to have to do dialysis. But if he doesn't do it, his kidneys won't and he'll get sick and die.

When I asked Dad if the hospital had any idea how long he'd be there, he said no. I don't know how or why they don't know. Do they not have a goal, like once Dad is free of X,Y,Z problems, he can go home? Except for his kidneys, he doesn't sound like he's super, super sick. So why do they act like his new home is the hospital?

Meanwhile, Mom was out of the room because she was out "getting ice cream." Yes, that's MY mom :)

Today Caleb called me at work to report something KIND of unusual, although not THAT unsual, for HIM: Right in broad daylight, he could see a ghost in one of the windows at the old Winecoff Hotel. This building is finally, FINALLY being renovated after a couple of decades of being a very stark symbol of the problems of renovating old buildings, unfulfilled promises by previous developers, etc. Anyway, the fact that it has a ghost in it is hardly suprising since it was the site of one of the deadlest hotel fires in the U.S. -- in 1947 a teenage "stringer" for the local paper got a Pulitizer for his picture of a woman jumping out the window to her death -- and was also a senior care facility. The thing is, Caleb has never seen or sensed ghosts there. But, he says, "Whoever stays in that fourth floor suite is going to have such issues..."

Which reminds me: The other day, a couple weeks ago actually, when I was clenaing out my office and bathroom, I got the distinct feeling my ghost here was disturbed. I was sitting in the living room, taking a break, when I got this feeling that there was someone watching me and feeling irritated, like I'd woken them from a good dream or used their favorite pen without asking. I'm not the most sensitive person as far as these things go, so I kind of wish Caleb had been there at a the time.

EDIT: Caleb was just over and he immediately knew our friend was out and about. He was just where I said. Caleb went off to investigate a couple of times and said I had to go with him to try and experience. We closed the bathroom door so it was pitch black and immediately it was in there, like a static charge. We felt it first on our hands, getting stronger and stronger, then as we lowered our hands, it got stronger, then went up our arms. All the hair on our arms stood up and we ran out of there. Then we were in the living room and it came in there, both of us felt the same thing. Then it drifted off. Caleb said goodbye to it as he left and told it we mean no harm.

Daily Morrissey quote

Life is a pigsty
And if you don't know this
Then what
do you know?
Every second of my life I only live for you
And you can shoot me
And you can throw me off a train
I still maintain
I still maintain
Life, life is a pigsty

- "Life Is A Pigsty," Ringleader of the Tormentors, 2006

Morrissey-haters don't fear, I won't keep this up for months, but at least for a while. There are just too many good lyrics. And this one has been in my head all day.
