Daily Morrissey quote

OK, hadn't been a "daily" thing really, just occasional, and this is a Smiths quote, but hell, same thing:

Coyness is nice, and
Coyness can stop you
From saying all the things in
Life you'd like to

So, if there's something you'd like to try
If there's something you'd like to try
Ask me I wont say no, how could I?

- "Ask," The Smiths

Yup, it's so true.

6 Weird Things About Me

I was tapped for this by stormychris. Gonna be hard, I can think of like 6,000 things and have probably posted 75% of them before.

6 Weird Things About Me

1. If I need to look something up in a dictionary, I always always manage to open up right to the exact page the word is on. This is true not just with English dictionaries, but with German. I think I developed this talent through my habit of reading reference books a lot as a kid, looking up lots of words in German, and working at a library for several years. I just KNOW where the word will be!

2. Speaking of libraries, I can recite the alphabet backwards. Quickly.

3. If a book is more than 10 year old, I can usually date it based on cover, artwork style, smell, etc. within about 5 years. Give me a cookbook from 1930 and I'll say "Oh, late 20s." Give me a textbook from 1968, I'll know the copyright date without checking. Again, picked this up from working in a library I guess.

4. I've had a lot of dreams about reading, specifically dreams where the dream IS reading. I'll have a book and I'll be reading it. My brain is sort of writing the book as I'm reading it. Usually the books I'm reading in the dream aren't fiction but non-fiction! One time in middle school, when I was a total film history freak, I read a bio of Buster Keaton in my sleep. What a geek dream.

5. I tend to read books over and over and over and OVER. Some people read a book once and are done with it. Or they'll read it, then read it through a few years later. Me, I have books I'll just pick up randomly and read over, or read half of, or read certain scenes from, over and over, compulsively. When I was younger I used to read book out loud frequently, until bits were burned into my brain. I have no idea how many times I've "read" Vampire Lestate or (Potok's) The Chosen or Wraeththu. I frequently just grab the book and start reading at some random point, because I know what's going on, don't need to start over. (Oddly, my dad has this same habit.)

6. The first book I ever bought with my own money, when I was like 11, was a little paperbac collection of H.P. Lovecraft stories.

As you can see, I solved the difficulty of this meme but picking a theme for my weirdness.

The Friday Five: Rain

Good thefridayfive:

1. What type of mood are you generally in on a rainy day?
Good. Relaxed. Happy.

2. What are your favorite things to do when the weather is gloomy?
Go outside in the city, the park. Biking in the rain is fun. Walk around singing Smiths songs under my breath. Enjoy the clean air. Going in the woods is the rain is great, too. I love the feel of wet leaves, the smell of wet forest.

3. Have you ever been kissed in the rain?

4. After the rain stops, do you continue what you were doing, or do you run outside to do something else?
I'm more liable to run INTO the rain than hide from it.

5. What is your favorite drink/food to have when it's raining outside?
I don't really think about mixing rain and food or drink. I don't like getting food wet.
