Sweet relief

It's a beautiful day and I am really delighted I can go out in it and do whatever I want. Yup. Went to the allergist's and it was so nice to not be checking my watch to make sure I wasn't taking too long and making myself late for work. Got smoothie afterward and now I'm going to look for jobs. And do other stuff on my list. It's like being out of jail...

Not a dire emergency

Upon Caleb's insistence, I called up my doctor's office so he can have a look at the cat bite. Which has been there for like 5 weeks or something. The soonest available appt. isn't 'til Sept. 8. I took the appt. because if the stupid bite is still there in a week and a half, it's further proof somehting is messed up. But it's irritating to have to wait that long. I should have lied and said the cat bite was from today. Oh, and Sept. 8 is the last day of my insurance coverage. Which reminds me... have to get new insurance. *grumble*

Bad corporate web site

I love when I'm applying for a job and check on the company's web site so I can get more background... and discover it is BAAAAAAAD. It encourages me to apply, because they NEED help. Witness this. This is freakin' national chain. WTF is UP with this site? Alas, I suspect their HQ is way the hell up in Sandy Springs, so I don't know if I'm willing to apply. And then back again. 45 minutes up to a day in a corporate office park? I'm willing to compromise, but that's just gross. The only advantage would be lots of time to read or use a laptop, but UCK. I think I will stick closer to home.

That sinking feeling

I'm not sure why, but this afternoon I suddenly started feeling depressed. Despite this, I managed to take care of a few things, including entering receipts, applying for two jobs, contacting a contract job agent, setting a doctor's appointment, and reading a new SF novel I started this morning. But I feel sad and don't want to go to the gym, although I will make myself. I bet that will improve my mood anyway.

Job Hunt 1

As I did the last time I did this, back in Jan./Feb., I'm going to chronicle the hunt.

Today I started in earnest.

Things accomplished:

Got in touch with MATRIX, the contract agency I worked for in the years was at Ga Tech. They were really great and worked with me on my last job hunt, so I went to the same representative, who's a senior rep there, and told her my deal, gave her my resume, etc. She immediately sent me some jobs to look at and one of them a Web Designer position with a large telecommunications company, is a good match, so she's submitting me for it. Yay!

Applied for two other jobs, both titled "Web Content Specialist." I've actually found this time that searching on "content" brings up exactly the type of jobs I'm interested in -- content manager, content coordinator, etc. Many of these positions call for either using CMS or editorial work, which are both up my alley.

Spent time doing up a Monster.com resume so I could apply for one of the jobs above. Their system for resume-building is much better than most of the ones I've used, and took a lot less time. The worst online application I've seen yet? Delta's. Ugh. The State of Georgia's is pretty bad, too.

Also, not today, but either late last week or over the weekend, I sent out a mass email to a big group of my neighbors, who are a good group to network with, and I also send my resume to a couple of people who specifically said they'd help scout jobs for me. Who knows, something there could bear fruit.
