All set for That Time of Year

Tonight, since I was cleaning up the main room anyway, I decided to put up the Christmas decorations. So now the little 3-foot tree is all alit and shiny and on top of the china cabinet is the glowing 1960s plastic village Mom finally let me have a couple of years ago. That thing is so tacky but I remember it from when I was little so I love it. Also up, thanks to a moment of inspiration, is a door wreath I made out of gold-glitter-covered fake evergreens, two wire coat hangers I took apart and made a ring with, plus some colorful curling ribbon. I think the whole thing must've cost like $4 because I got the gold stuff for Halloween for $3 and then decided to save it for later. Looks good!

Something else I've set up are Christmas lights in the windows. I stick them on the inside of the glass using those hooks that come on suction cups; I ring the lights around the bottom half of the window and then made a diagonal pass to use up the strand. So far I've done four windows -- all the bedroom ones plus my office. They're all white lights, with blinker lights in, which is driving Luckie nuts. If she doesn't calm down about it, I'll take out the blinkers, but meanwhile I'm enjoying it. I hope it gives cheers to people on the street and the office workers across the way. I have a couple more strands of lights, colored, but I don't know what to do with them yet since I don't want lights in the main room windows. Maybe I'll put them in the bathroom or just in this office, so it's extra crazy in here.

P.S. Here's a link to pictures from what my place looked like last year. Looks about the same.

I guess it DOES work!

A week and a half ago when I went to renew my prescriptions, I decided to skip renewing the Singulair. I was being cheap. Silly me, because last night I woke up several times and lying there in bed, I remembered just how well that stuff works, because it's not working now and UGH my lungs feel f'd up. Singulair is primarily prescribed for asthma but it also works on seasonal allergies. I kind of take it for both, because the problem I have is that normally my lungs get nastily irritated and sort of seize up so I feel like somebody has a belt squeezed around my chest. It's not an asthma attack, it's just lungs that can't function as they should. I keep wanting to thump myself on the chest to dislodge the congestion, but it's not really congestion. My nose and eyes get messed up too without it. Anyway, the Singulair has always worked really well, revealing to me that I'd basically been unable to breathe properly for many years prior, and it was stupid for me to stop taking it. I'm renewing it now so I can breathe during my trip to Germany and so I can sleep through the night, as recently I've been waking up multiple times because my nose is so stuffed I can't breathe and my mouth get super dry from stupid mouth-breathing. I look forward to breathing deeply again.

First of the Month

It's the end of the year, so let me look back at the first sentences of the first LJ entries for every month this year. It's pretty representative, except none of them start with "I'm so depressed..."

Sept. 1
Well, Kristina arrived last night and while I am LOVING it -- we have insane, INSANE amounts of fun together -- Luckie is really unhappy about having a visitor.

Deep breaths, on the way

Decided not to go to the gym tonight, mainly because this whole allergy thing continues to make me feel like crap. My lungs are so irritated and any type of exertion, even just walking, makes them burn. Before I got treatment with Singulair, I always thought I was just out of shape and that's why I was so lousy at running or doing anything that requires a lot of breathing, but now I know my airways are just constricted with allergies. The good news? I went to the allergy clinic for my monthly shot and told a nurse how I'd skipped my medication and she immediately dug me out a bagful of Singulair samples, one of which I took right away. I'll be picking up a month's worth from CVS tomorrow, which leads to the bad news, that that stuff is damn expensive. However, I really don't like the feeling that somebody has been punching me in the chest and bruised me up, so I will just put it on my credit card and deal.

Meanwhile I went to Fresh Market after the cliniic visit and picked up some nice things to last me 'til I leave on Wednesday. I haven't had anything in the house lately because I know I'm going out of town, but there has to be *something* in the fridge! I got some really good rye bread as wel as canned, condensed lobster bisque, which I just cooked using non-fat half and half. So good -- with the rye.

I think I'm going to take a nap right now. It's a weird time of day for it, but I feel like this lung this has worn me out. I think if I just rest a bit I'll wake up and my lungs will be a little better. I'm sick of dealing wiht it.
