The bad news is that within the past couple of weeks, both my credit cards were used by fraudsters trying to buy expensive sh*t.
The good news? In both cases, the card companies (Chase and Citi, FYI) caught the activity before I even noticed, froze my account and canceled my card. With Citi, they even sent me a new card with a security breach notice in it, without my having to do anything. With the other, I noticed my card not working, at two different shops, and called in on it myself. A five minute phone call cleared it all up and a couple days later I had my new card.
So two shiny new cards, no records to "straighten out" and some fraudster had been denied his candy.
