You know you're from Massachusetts if

In response to otterdance posting a similar meme re Maine...

Assorted entries from:
"You know you're from Massachusetts if..."

* You think if someone's nice to you, they either want something or they are from out of town and probably lost

Pretty much, at least that's how I used to be. I'm sure I'm much, much warmer now.

* A Crown Victoria = Undercover Cop

* The transportation system is known as the "T"

Yeah. Although unlike some "ex-pats" I do not refer to "the MARTA."

* Subway is a fast food place

* You could own a small town in Iowa for the cost of your house

My parents could've.

* There are 24 Dunkin Donuts shops within 15 minutes of your house

LOL. I love Boston b/c there is always somewhere... um, a Dunkin... to eat. Actually there used be 3 within 5 minutes of my place in Atlanta. Now there's just one. I do know that just about the first thing I do upon arriving in at Logan in Boston is get a bagel or doughnut. I went for lunch there last Sunday.

* When people talk about the "curse of the Bambino," you know exactly what they are talking about, and you believe in it, too

Yeah. But that's outdated now.

* You think of Rhode Island as the "deep South"

Heck, I used to think of Hingham (8 mi. south of Boston) as being the deep south. Or at least VERY far away!

* Anything past Worcester is "the middle of nowhere" (if you live in Boston)

Not really. But a) not from Boston, b) sister Betty has worked in Worcester since early 80s, and c) my parents now live west of Worcester. I wouldn't say it's "nowhere," it's just not near, um, anywhere.

* Six inches of snow is considered a "dusting"

Yeah. 1/8 of an inch is a blizzard in Atlanta though.

* Three days of 90+ heat is definitely a "heat wave" ... and 63° weather is "on the warm side"

* $15 to park is a bargain

Take the T.

* At the ice cream shop, you call chocolate sprinkles "Jimmies"

Wait... what do OTHER people call them? They're Jimmies!

Today was a very Friday-ish Friday. In acknowledgement:

1. If you had the ability to legally change your name, would you? To what?
Well, I *have* the ability to legally change my name. We all do, right? That aside, I wouldn't change my name b/c I like it and it's mine.

2. What do you with with change that you receive from banks/purchases/find on the ground?
Temporarily stash it in my wallet, then put it in a silver tea caddy I keep at home on my dresser. I use the change now and then but eventually when the caddy is full, I put it into one of those change machines and use the money to pay for a week's worth of groceries.

3. If you could travel back in time to change the course of one historical event, what event would it be?
Kill Hitler before his craziness kills.

4. Would you rather live a safe, stable, moderately interesting life or one where every day was dangerous, volatile, and different?
I'd like to solidly straddle both those lives.

5. What do you think you'll be remembered for when you die and, if you could, would you change it to something else?
My propensity to tell stories. (This includes both writing and just, well, talking a lot.)

1. When were you born?
Aug. 22, 1974, at a hospital in Methuen, Mass.

2. What's your favorite photograph?
For personal photo, the first grade pic I use in my icon here. For all time... jeez, that's hard, because I love photography. Probably something from LIFE magazine.

3. What's the longest distance you've run?
5 miles. That was at the gym a couple of years ago. I was like, "Um, I don't believe this!"

4. What is familiar?
Pine trees.

5. What do you count on?
Luckie, to wake me up, put me to bed, greet me after a trip, observe me while I brush my teeth, etc.

Fanfic Fun

Since renovating and expanding Forever -- the Wraeththu fanfic site -- a couple of weeks ago, I've been happily tending the new archive, posting a huge backlog of fics, reading some great stuff, and coming up with new ideas for the site. It's so nice to have a hobby :)

Anyway... If you're ever wondered what Wraeththu is about and are the kind of person who likes to discovered books or movies and whatnot through fanfic, Forever is THE place to start. Of course, I highly recommend the books (order here, he he!) but if you want fanfic, go here!

Also, check out the Editor's Picks page I've set up. I don't mean to play favorites, but I *do* have favorites and there are now over 100 fics posted, so I figured I should do something to make the good ones easy to find.
