Empty Tanks in Atlanta

Repeating a question asked over on atlanta: Are we the only major metropolitan area with a gas shortage?????

B/c seriously, there is no gas in Atlanta. People are driving to 6-7 places and finding them all out... and then running out of gas. This is true in town for sure but I think also the suburbs. This morning I took the train up to Ga Tech for a conference, rush hour time, and it was crazy-crazy-crowded. I know it's more crowded anyway due to the gas prices, but this seemed extra crazy, like people whose cars had no gas crazy. I'm sure there were people who did not go to work or school b/c of gas issues, people who had to cancel doctor's visits, vacation, etc., because they can't get out the driveway.

Daniel's car has almost zero gas in it. He doesn't need it this week (as usual, only uses it maybe 2x week), except to move it out of Caleb's garage for a pressure-washing on Thursday. Normally this would be a minor annoyance, but now it's a problem. He hopes it has enough gas to get to a nearby lot for the day. Although afterward, he may have to ride MARTA or bike to get a gallon of gas to bring to the car. There are only 2 gas stations I can think of near Downtown.

Meanwhile, I think this is all a good drill for the days of $500/barrel gas, which many are predicting will hit within the next 5-10 years. See icon. I should do one that covers over uses of oil, like plastics, but for now, the crisis is the car.

Just as when there's a beef recall, I am so glad I am not tied in to this crisis, at least not super directly.

Back in the Day

As usual a post by versailles_rose is prompting me...

Back In The Day

1. When was the last time you went to a playground and swung on the swings?
I *almost* did it a month ago, last time I was at Grant Park, but I know I have done it sometime in the past 6 months. Either here or while visiting my parents in MA.

2. What is the first TV show you remember watching as a child?
Whatever it was, it was PBS. My face was glued to PBS like the original "Telly" as a little kid. So Electric Company, Sesame Street, 3-2-1 Contact, ZOOM, 70s science shows, Romper Room... I also remember watching TV news about the hostage crisis. And I know I first saw Wizard of Oz on TV when I was like 2, because I've been obsessed with it since then.

3. What's your favorite board game?

4. How old were you when you started school?
(Just barely) 5 and really too young, esp. since I had never been around other kids or in any kind of institutional environment. I actually had to go through a special grade after kindergarten, called "Readiness" for a whole year prior to first grade, so I could catch up. After that I was always *ahead*.

5. If you could have given any one piece of advice to yourself when you were a child, what would it be?
It's not YOU, it's THEM.

Cat Comic

Sometimes I can draw. Despite the fact tonight is apparently not one of those times, here I present:

In fairness I will note that Ajax was holding Luckie down for about 20 seconds before Luckie turned the tables. Also, she first pinned the boy down with her paw before slapping him in the face. It was so Joan Crawford, I loved it.

P.S. Later post coming on how they are total playmates, pals and buds now. Seriously. Who'd have thunk it?!
