What's the first major news event that you remember hearing about as a child? Where did you learn about it? How did it impact your world view?
The Iran hostage crisis followed by the election of Ronald Reagan. I remember watching the TV news coverage and seeing ribbons everywhere. Then either at the end of 1980 or Jan. 1981, I remember watching as my teacher took the picture of Jimmy Carter off the bulletin board and replaced it with one of Reagan.
I also have vague memories of the death of Elvis. But my first real "media" memory? Seeing Star Wars in the theater. I was three or four and it was the most awesome thing ever, duh!
