It's not often I'm happy to be back in Atlanta but...

...but journey home from Italy was truly horrendous! Home sweet - and I don't need a connecting flight - home.

Left Bologna around 10 a.m. Supposed to land at Charles De Gaulle - Paris 11:30. Delayed and didn't arrive 'til 12:15. Evil CDG is evil, so of course we were miles away from the terminal we needed. While we were on the way, our flight back to Atlanta was boarding... or so we thought.

The trip gets worse from here.

So after pass control and a bus and too many stairs and escalators, we arrive at our gate and there's a crowd of people there so we know it's...

Oh, forget it, I'm too tired to relate all the details except for the most relevant, a.k.a...

Plane left 1 1/2 hours late, don't know why... and best of all, there was a life-threatening medical emergency over the north Atlantic and we had to make a landing in Stephenville, Newfoundland. Where we got to sit on the tarmac for a couple of hours while paramedics came in, jet refueled, staff cleaned up cabin mess, and a ton of paperwork and new route info was taken care of. Newfoundland!

Other crappy details include a ton of rough air (flight attendant got air sick even), scary take-off from Newfoundland, and most people on the flight missing their connections. Oh, and when we did land finally we had to sit for 30 min. waiting for a gate. Insanity!

So I've now been up around 24 hours now.

Meanwhile, before I forget, some things I learned today:

1) There's a town in Newfoundland called Placentia. WTF?
2) Charles De Gaulle is a cursed airport. Which I knew already but damn, again?! Ugh.
3) Bologna is on the Apennines. I didn't know where it was the whole 2 days I was there. Yes, really.

And that is all, my friends.
