sideview, obamame_sideview

After my recent post on what NOT to wear in winter weather, thought I'd detail what I DID wear today when today in Atlanta, it's about 5 F (includes significant windchill).

normal socks
thick German socks
thick-soled Mary Jane shoes
thermal underwear - top & bottom
velveteen L.L. Bean pants
ribbed turtleneck
wool sweater
wool-lined coat
insulated wool hat with ear flaps
insulated suede gloves

Basically only the front of my face was uncovered this morning on the way to work and I don't care if my face is cold.

Writer's Block: Time after time

If you fall in love with a book or movie, do you tend to watch/read it again and again? If so, what's your upper limit on repeats?

Again and again and again and again and again and again. There is NO limit on rereads. There are at least 20 books I have effectively read 20-50 times. I just pick them up and reread all my favorite parts, or random parts, or cover-to-cover, over and over. Examples of books I've attacked this way include everything from the obvious (Vampire Chronicles, Wraeththu) to more obscure stuff like The Chosen (Chaim Potok) and non-fiction books like The Age of Missing Information (Bill McKibben). Sometimes I do it when I'm waiting on a sequel that's not out yet, like say with Nightrunner, which even after expanding to 5 books (or is it 6) is so yummy I still reread them all to get -more. I just LOVE these books, characters, scenes, etc. so much I was to repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat. I also read them out loud.

Oh, and I -also- do this with movies. There are a handful of films which I have seen a gazillion times and just do not tire of. Examples: The Wizard of Oz, Lawrence of Arabia, The Third Man, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Ghostbusters, The Sound of Music.

A "Conversation" with Harry

I swear, this is a transcript of a "conversation" I just had with Harry. This occurred shortly after I sat down on the toilet in the guest/cat bathroom. There's a pedestal sink next to it that both cats like to jump in to "talk" to me.

Harry: Human is signaling she requires companionship!
Wendy: Hi, Harry!
Harry (jumping): Hi, Human!
Wendy: What are you doing?
Harry (checking out objects on edge of sink): Stuff!
Wendy: There's nothing for you here, just hand soap, baking soda and--
Harry (starts rubbing head all over Arm & Hammer) This convenient scritcher!
Wendy: --and yeah, the box of baking soda you apparently like and--
Harry (licks soap dispenser): Hmm!
Wendy: --and the soap you just licked and--
Harry (shifting attention): What's this?
Wendy: Then there's that air freshener. What do you think of it?
Harry (starts swatting it): Ooh, a toy!
Wendy: I seriously can't believe you.

Then Luckie appeared and Harry got distracted and hopped down to go chase her.
